If you are new to Factorio, you might be overwhelmed by the complexity and depth of the game. There are many things to learn and master, from crafting and building to automation and logistics. But don't worry, we have some tips and tricks to help you get started and grow your factory efficiently.
Tip #1: Set to Peaceful Mode for an easier start
While you might be the only human on the entire planet in Factorio, you certainly aren't the only living thing. Indigenous creatures called Biters will start to attack you as your factory grows and starts to pollute their home - and they can make life pretty difficult for you, particularly in the early game before you have proper defences set up. If you're just starting with Factorio, we'd recommend you set your first world to Peaceful Mode in the game options. This means that Biters won't attack you until you attack them for the first time. This gives you lots more breathing room to expand your factory and get set up with some basic weaponry and defences before you go and pick a fight with the nearest Biter nest.
Tip #2: Set your Research Queue availability to always
Another good option to set before you've even started your first game is to head into the Advanced tab of your game setup and set your Research Queue to be always available. For some reason, by default you will only be able to queue up research once you've finished the game (by launching your first rocket) - but that just seems strange to us. Research is one of the most important aspects of Factorio, as it unlocks new technologies, items, and recipes that will help you improve your factory. By setting your Research Queue to always available, you can plan ahead and choose which researches you want to work on next, without having to wait for each one to finish before selecting another.
Tip #3: Plan your goals out ahead of time
The only real goal in Factorio is to escape the planet in a rocket. Getting there is entirely up to the player, so having self-implemented goals that'll make progress towards the rocket is always a good idea. Like any open-ended game, a lot of the fun in Factorio is created by the player. You can decide what kind of factory you want to build, how big or small it should be, how much automation or manual work you prefer, and so on. But having some concrete milestones or objectives can help you stay focused and motivated. For example, you could aim to produce a certain amount of a resource per minute, or build a specific structure or machine, or research a certain technology. You can also use the in-game achievements as a guide for setting your goals. e0e6b7cb5c
